The Atacama Evoque Eco 65-60 SE2 Reference Series incorporates the latest technological enhancements from the award-winning Evoque range, offering further improvements to the resonance-control channels and leg component construction compared to the standard Evoque and Evoque Eco Special Edition models. This Reference Series rack comes standard with mechanically tuned stainless steel spikes, enabling a 50% higher load capacity per module compared to the Evoque Eco 60-40 SE2. Additionally, it offers significantly greater shelf width (65 cm) and depth (60 cm) to accommodate larger Hi-Fi components.
Features and benefits of the Evoque SE2 Reference Series
1. High-density bamboo flooring.
Atacama’s high-density, carbonized bamboo offers significant sonic advantages compared to conventional hardwood and veneer flooring. Its unique microporous structure ensures excellent vibration damping and resonance control. The manufacturing process, layering, density, and overall thickness have been specifically selected for optimal acoustic results.
2. A.S.I.S.T. damping gaskets.
Atacama Sonic Isolation System Technology (A.S.I.S.T.) is integrated into every module. It consists of two damping gaskets* in each leg, which reduce resonance and isolate the aluminium components from the outer leg collar.
3. Upper and lower aluminum caps, connected by internal bolts.
These components act as resonance conductors, channeling energy away from the bamboo shelves so it can be dissipated into the floor.
4. Mechanically tuned leg lengths*
The leg lengths are 20 mm longer than the corresponding leg height of the standard Evoque. This lowers the resonant frequency of each module* compared to a comparable standard Evoque.
5. Counterweights for leg tuning*
By attaching fully adjustable Frostrum counterweights made of nickel-plated bronze to the internal leg bolts*, the module frequency can be adjusted to reduce the resonance of the respective equipment.
6. SE2 Upgrade vs. SE – Improved mechanically tuned leg lengths*
The leg lengths are 5 mm longer than those of the standard Evoque SE. This further lowers the resonant frequency of each module* compared to a comparable standard Evoque SE.
7. SE2 upgrade over the SE – A.V.R.D.C. (Advanced Vectored Resonance Deflection Channels).
Each bamboo panel features new A.V.R.D.C. (Advanced Vectored Resonance Deflection Channels).
A.V.R.D.C. is the three-dimensional, curved geometric design integrated into the underside of each module. This newly developed, multi-curved pattern neutralizes high-frequency harmonic energy by channeling it away from the supported equipment and toward the grounding components of the legs. Each channel is V-cut and then curved to direct the maximum amount of energy entering the shelf vertically—shifting it horizontally toward the leg components. This prevents resonance feedback and maximizes the performance of each module.
8. SE2 Reference Series upgrade over the SE2 – advanced stainless steel isolation spikes.
Since so much resonance is channeled away from the bamboo, the spike interface has been opened up further. This prevents the energy from being constricted and allows it to dissipate freely into the floor. These new spikes are longer and shaped to maximize energy transfer between modules while simultaneously providing a degree of isolation. We call this “mechanical grounding.” The Reference Series spikes are made of stainless steel and allow for a 50% higher load capacity per module.
9. SE2 upgrade over the SE – bamboo panels with contoured side edges.
The contoured edges on the side surfaces of each bamboo module prevent resonance energy from manifesting as standing waves; instead, this energy is directed into the new AVRDC channels, thereby increasing the efficiency of each shelf. When a wave bounces off an edge surface, its phase changes. In the case of waves that create a standing wave, the reflected wave is a mirror image of the original. The waves then combine. If the amplitudes of the two waves have the same sign (both positive or both negative), they add up to form a wave with a larger amplitude. This addition is known as constructive interference. Contouring the side edges helps to prevent this.

From Aerospace to Audio Excellence
The story of Atacama began in 1969 as a supplier in the demanding world of aerospace. The company earned the trust of renowned clients such as Rolls-Royce and British Aerospace, perfecting its skills in high-precision metalworking.A Passion for Sound Ignited
However, a passion for audio remained very much alive within the company. In 1987, Atacama began developing a revolutionary HiFi loudspeaker stand. Initial reactions were positive, but a focus on the core aerospace business meant the project was initially put on hold.A Dream Comes True
In 1989, a new family member joined the company, bringing the potential of these loudspeaker stands back into the spotlight. In the early 1990s, economic challenges compelled the company to diversify its product range. Atacama reimagined the concept of the loudspeaker stand, recognizing its unique qualities: Performance-Oriented Design: Superior acoustic isolation and excellent value for money compared to industrial-looking competing products. Visual Design: A design aesthetic that perfectly complements high-end HiFi systems. The Atacama Brand Takes Flight
In 1992, the company introduced the elegant "SE" series of loudspeaker stands under the Atacama brand. A targeted marketing campaign—along with glowing reviews from *HiFi Choice* and *What HiFi?*—helped the SE24 model earn the coveted "Best Buy" and "Hi-Fi Accessory of the Year" awards.A Commitment to Innovation
Building on this success, Atacama expanded its product range in 2001 with the introduction of the award-winning Equinox series of HiFi racks. The company's technical expertise led to the exploration of new materials, with bamboo composites coming particularly into focus starting in 2011. This innovative approach yielded not only sonic and functional performance advantages but also offered an eco-friendly alternative to traditional hardwoods. The Apollo Brand Joins the Family
The acquisition of Apollo HiFi in 2013 enabled the company to pursue distinct developmental paths. While Atacama focuses on bamboo and performance-oriented design, Apollo caters to customers who value a traditional wood aesthetic as well as practical features, such as vinyl storage solutions.A Tradition of Award-Winning Design
Over the years, both brands have consistently garnered acclaim. Atacama racks—such as the Eris Eco 5, the Evoque Eco 60-40 Standard SE, and the Evoque Eco 60-40 SE2 (crafted from bamboo)—were awarded the "Equipment Support of the Year" title between 2013 and 2023. The Moseco speaker stand also achieved a remarkable streak of annual awards from *What HiFi?* Apollo’s modular Storm 6 HiFi system, as well as the new Atacama Elite Eco 24 rack, recently received the prestigious 5-star rating as well. The Future of HiFi Furniture
Atacama’s passion for innovation remains undiminished. The speaker stands in the NeXXus series impressively demonstrate this commitment, offering extensive customization options regarding height and top-plate size. Thanks to the recent acquisition of the HiFi Racks brand, the company is poised to further expand its range of HiFi furniture and finishes in the future. Atacama Audio and Apollo HiFi remain dedicated to a singular goal: not merely to meet expectations for HiFi speaker stands and AV rack systems, but to exceed them. Customers can expect further innovative products in the coming years as well.1 x Atacama - EVOQUE ECO 65/60 SE2 Reference Shelf Base
